First released in October 1990, Heart Like A Wheel was the Human League's first release of the 90s. The track was a minor hit in both the UK (#29) and the USA (#32). The parent album Romantic?, however, was a commercial failure, ending a long relationship with Virgin records.
Martin Rushent, who produced the Dare album, returned to produce and the track was co-written by former Human League member Jo Callis.
Heart Like A Wheel referenced "holy war", eleven years before September 11 and was released around the time of the first Gulf War. .
